What is the advantage and/or benefit to Firefox over IE7? I downloaded it last month and I don't really see much of a difference.
A major plus for Firefox is much, much better rendering of CSS. This means it's better equipped to display web pages correctly. It's multi-platform so you can use it on a variety of computers and use freely-available addons to synchronise bookmarks between installations (I use one called FoxMarks) and many other things. Also, IE has a history of security vulnerabilities.

Help! Want to use Linux
by hamsterbait ini have a three year old laptop.. the disk got corrupted, and i don't have the windows reinstal anymore.
god only knows where it went, and he's not telling.. i have decided that i want to just forget windows for this machine, and use linux instead.
the learning experience could be fun, and instaling it and doing the necessary with the corrupted hard disk should be an interesting project.. i dont want to spend a fortune, but what software would i need if any to prepare the hard disk.

What do you mean by prepare the hard disk? Do you want to simply wipe it, or were you thinking it would repair of some kind?

None. Like you, I wasn't keen on RV's and didn't feel capable of taking a study so didn't want one.
But I could've done. It's the luck of the draw, sometimes. And I obviously played a part in encouraging friends and family. None of us are entirely innocent. Those who did play a part in "bringing someone in" were just doing what they thought was right. I can understand how it would make you feel guilty, but things are just not that simple and we all have to take responsibility for our own choices. -
